I seem to have a virus that disables my notebook's keyboard, and also won't let me update my antivirus…
What can I do?
At first I thought my notebook was locking up, but then realized that it was the keyboard and touch pad that were disabled because the propietary buttons such as the wireless did not turn off when I pressed it, nor did the mute button turn on when I pressed it. I have to hold down the power button for a long time so the notebook shuts off. When it reboots, I can use the keyboard and touch pad again, but then they are disabled again. When I try to update my antivirus, it can’t. This leads me to believe I have a virus. How can I remove it if I can’t update my antivirus and the virus scan doesn’t find any?
Also, I checked my wireless router log, and it shows that the wireless Internet connection on my notebook is active , which probably means my notebook is being hacked while the keyboard and touchpad is disabled.
The screen saver appeared, I couldn’t get out of it (because the touchpad and keyboard are disabled) and now the screen turned off. How can I enable the controls?

Actually, it could be you’re machine is being used as a ‘bot for spamming or denial of service (DOS) attacks.
You’re going to have to boot up in Safe Mode with Networking and hope the beast isn’t smart enough to get around that. Safe Mode with Networking often prevents malware from running and protecting itself.
Once you do, (fingers crossed), update your anti-virus and run it.
I also suggest you download Ad-Aware SE and Spybot S&D (they’re free), install them, update them and run them.
Also, turn off System Restore to evict any copies of bad stuff that might be lurking there.
To get into Safe Mode:
1.Log out and reboot your machine.
2.When the machine starts the reboot sequence, press the F8 key repeatedly.
3.Select Safe Mode With Networking from the resulting menu.
4.The machine will continue booting, but the Windows desktop will look different. You won’t be able to see the Internet, for instance. Log in as Administrator. Administrator often has no password.
5.When you’re finished, log out and reboot back into normal mode.

I think you’re jumping to conclusions…
Actually, this sounds as if it could be something simple –
a. you turned off your keyboard and pad or switched to other drivers for your keyboard / pad.
b. you locked your system somehow
c. driver conflict
Check for other switches on the exterior of your computer, see if you can enter the CMOS / BIOS / Startup / whatever screen when you first turn on the computer. If you can then you’ve verified that your keyboard works fine, so it’s not likely a physical switch on the outside.
Have you tried restarting into plain safe mode to see if you regain control of your keyboard and pad?
Do you have anything else plugged into the computer, another keyboard or mouse? Are those ports clear of anything plugged into them? Do you have any other usb or other devices plugged in that you can try unplugging?
Sometimes the simplest things can go wrong and have really bizarre side effects.
As per the mute button and the wireless button, are they built into the keyboard or are they separate buttons from the keyboard. If they’re built into the keyboard then they have to go through the same hardware and driver that all the rest of your keys have to go through, so this doesn’t necessarily prove anything. Even if they’re separate they may still share the same hardware and drivers.
That your wireless connection is "active" just means it’s connected to the wireless router, or do you mean the router is showing activity with a high level of bandwidth? Check the router’s connection page to see if the packet counters are climbing.
Anyway, if you do get into safe mode, go check out your keyboard and mouse in the control panel and/or System Control Panel. You didn’t state what OS you have so I’m assuming XP.
